Rate Limits & Quotas

The Seddi Public API enforces request quotas to ensure fair usage and platform stability.

Current limits

LimitValue
Requests per minute1,000
ScopePer API key

Every request to any endpoint (except CORS preflight) consumes 1 quota unit.

What happens when you exceed the limit?

If you exceed 1,000 requests per minute, the API will return:

HTTP 429 Too Many Requests

Your client should pause and retry after a short backoff period.

Use exponential backoff with jitter to avoid thundering herd issues:

import time
import random
import requests

def request_with_retry(url, headers, max_retries=5):
for attempt in range(max_retries):
response = requests.get(url, headers=headers)

if response.status_code == 429:
wait = (2 ** attempt) + random.uniform(0, 1)
print(f"Rate limited. Retrying in {wait:.2f}s...")
time.sleep(wait)
continue

response.raise_for_status()
return response.json()

raise Exception("Max retries exceeded")

Handling 504 Gateway Timeout

A 504 Gateway Timeout may occasionally occur when the backend is scaling up under load. This is transient — simply retry the request after a few seconds.

if (response.status === 504) {
await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, 3000));
// retry the request
}

Need higher limits?

If your use case requires a higher quota, contact your Seddi account manager or reach out to support@seddi.com.
